  • Cupping

Cupping Therapy is an ancient healing practice that has been used for thousands of years in traditional Chinese, Egyptian, & Middle Eastern cultures. It involves placing special cups on the skin to create a vacuum or suction effect, which helps improve circulation, relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and promote overall healing. The suction draws the skin and underlying tissues into the cup, enhancing blood flow to specific areas and stimulating the body's natural healing processes. Dry cupping is the most common form of cupping & the only one utilized at Bodyworks. Cups are placed on the skin and a vacuum is created using an automatic pump. The suction pulls the skin and underlying tissues into the cup, improving blood flow and encouraging the body to repair and rejuvenate the area. It works by creating negative pressure in the cup, which pulls blood and lymphatic fluid to the surface of the skin. This increase in blood flow helps to release muscle tension, promote detoxification, reduce inflammation, & stimulate the nervous system. Benefits of Cupping Therapy include pain relief, improved circulation, relaxation, stress relief, reduction in anxiety, improved skin health, & support for respiratory health. After receiving Cupping Therapy a client could experience temporary circular bruising that will dissipate after a few days to a week. Individuals with blood disorders, heart disease, or pregnant women should consult with their doctor before receiving Cupping Therapy. Overall Cupping Therapy is a powerful and natural technique used to promote healing, reduce pain, and improve overall well-being. It combines ancient wisdom with modern understanding of anatomy and physiology, making it a popular choice for people seeking relief from a variety of physical ailments, from musculoskeletal pain to stress. Whether done as a standalone treatment or in combination with other therapies, cupping can be a beneficial way to restore balance and vitality to the body.

  • Swedish Techinque

This is the most popular and versatile technique in massage therapy.  Swedish techniques are used throughout all massages, bringing a cohesive flow to the session. Swedish massage technique warms the muscles & soft connective tissues & targets the topmost layers of muscles to promote relaxation, improve circulation, & ease tension. Gentle to moderate pressure is applied, focusing on stress reduction rather than addressing deeper muscle issues. Benefits include nervous system relaxation, ease muscle tension, improved blood & lymph circulation, increased flexibility, stress reduction, & better sleep. This technique is great for individuals with mild muscle tension or those seeking relaxation. If you are new to receiving massages, this is a great place to start!

  • Deep Tissue Technique

Deep Tissue is a therapeutic massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle & connective tissue (fascia). It is designed to address chronic muscle tension, stiffness, & pain by using more intense pressure than traditional Swedish massage. Deep tissue massage targets the underlying muscles & fascia, aiming to release fibrous knots, alleviate muscle soreness, & promote healing in areas that may be suffering from chronic tension or injury. Applying firm to intense pressure, working the deeper muscles to release fascial adhesions  is the main  purpose of the Deep Tissue technique. Concentration on areas of the body where chronic pain or tightness is persistent. Deep Tissue massage also targets fascia which is the connective tissue that surrounds the muscle fibers.  Fascia can become tight & restrict movement. Gentle but deep work on these areas can free up the muscle fibers, allowing them to function properly. This technique provides a vast array of health benefits such as chronic pain relief, reduction of muscle tension, improved posture, increased mobility & flexibility, stress & anxiety relief, improved circulation, scar tissue & adhesion breakdown. Individuals suffering from past muscle injuries, fibromyalgia, chronic headaches & migraines, sciatica, and overall muscle tension would benefit greatly from Deep Tissue work. This technique can create some discomfort but it should not cause sharp pain.  Communication with the therapist is imperative to avoid excessive discomfort. It is common for individuals to feel sore or tender after receiving Deep Tissue Techniques. This technique is not recommended for acute injuries. Individuals with blood clotting disorders, osteoporosis, or cancer should consult with their doctor before receiving a Deep Tissue massage. Overall, this technique is an extremely effective and powerful therapeutic technique for relieving pain & promoting healing in the deeper layers of muscle & connective tissues.

  • Cross-Fiber Friction

CFF is a specific type of deep tissue massage technique used primarily to treat muscle and tendon injuries, including chronic pain and scar tissue formation. The goal of CFF is to break down adhesions, increase blood circulation, promote healing, and restore proper tissue function by applying focused pressure across the fibers of a muscle, tendon, or ligament. Deep pressure is applied across the muscle fibers or tendons rather than following the natural direction of the fibers.  This movement disrupts the alignment of fibers that may have been bound together due to scar tissue or adhesions. By breaking up the adhesions, Cross-Fiber Friction technique encourages the healing process, reduces pain, & restores mobility to the affected area. The friction stimulates circulation in the tissues, bringing fresh blood & oxygen to the area.  This can improve the elasticity of the muscles & tendons & help prevent future injury or stiffness. The pressure of CFF is typically deep & direct & can be uncomfortable but should not cause sharp pain. Especially when treating areas of chronic adhesions or scar tissue. Benefits of this technique are the breakdown of scar tissue & adhesions, improved circulation, increased flexibility & mobility, reduction in pain of affected area, and possible prevention of future injury. Common conditions treated by CFF are tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, shin splints, rotator cuff injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, frozen shoulder, scar tissue post-surgery or injury, & muscle strains. This technique can be uncomfortable & intense therefore communication with the therapist is paramount. This is a highly effective & targeted therapeutic technique provided by an experienced therapist only. It requires skill & precision.

  • Sports Massage

Sports Massage is a specialized form of massage therapy designed to help athletes prepare for and recover from sports activities, as well as address injuries and enhance athletic performance. While it shares some similarities with other forms of therapeutic massage, such as Swedish or deep tissue massage, sports massage incorporates techniques tailored to the specific needs of athletes and active individuals. It is particularly effective for those who engage in regular physical activity or experience repetitive strain from sports or fitness training. Sports massage focuses on muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia — those soft tissues that support and surround the body’s movement systems. Depending on the athlete’s needs, the techniques and intensity may vary, but the overall goal is to reduce muscle tension, enhance flexibility, increase blood flow, and support the body’s healing process. Sports massage can be utilized for pre or post events, injury treatment & rehabilitation, and maintenance & prevention. A wide range of techniques such as Cross Fiber Friction, Myofascial Release, Neuromuscular Therapy, & classic Deep Tissue, are utilized during a sports massage session depending on the needs of the athlete.  Benefits of this technique include improved circulation, faster recovery, increased flexibility, pain relief, injury prevention, enhanced performance, stress relief & mental clarity. While sports massage is most associated with athletes, it can benefit anyone who engages in regular physical activity, including amateur and professional athletes (runners, cyclists, swimmers, weightlifters, etc.) Fitness enthusiasts those who exercise regularly or engage in weight training or group fitness classes.  Weekend Warriors who may engage in sports or physical activity on the weekends but don’t train regularly. Active individuals experiencing muscle tightness, overuse injuries, or stress from physical activity. Overall, Sports Massage is a versatile and effective treatment designed to enhance performance, speed up recovery, & prevent injuries. Regular sessions contribute to keeping active individuals healthy & in top condition.

  • Soft Tissue Scraping

This technique is also known as Graston Technique or Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) is a therapeutic technique used to treat soft tissue injuries, improve mobility, & reduce pain.  It involves the use of specially designed instruments to scrape or glide along the skin over targeted muscles, tendons, ligaments, & fascia to break down scar tissue, adhesions, & other restrictions in the soft tissue. The technique can help facilitate tissue healing, improve blood circulation, reduce inflammation, and promote better movement and flexibility. It is commonly used in physical therapy, sports medicine, massage therapy, and rehabilitation settings. Unlike traditional hands-on massage techniques, soft tissue scraping uses specialized instruments, often made of stainless steel, to apply controlled pressure to the soft tissues. These tools are shaped to allow the therapist to target specific areas effectively and safely. The technique primarily targets muscles, fascia (the connective tissue that surrounds muscles), tendons, and ligaments. By working these soft tissues, the technique aims to address chronic injuries, muscle tightness, and movement restrictions. Scar tissue, adhesions, or "knots" in the muscles and fascia can develop due to injury, overuse, or inflammation. Scraping helps to break up these adhesions, improving tissue elasticity and movement, and speeding up the healing process.  The scraping action stimulates circulation to the treated area. This increased blood flow helps to deliver oxygen and nutrients to tissues while flushing out metabolic waste products, which can promote faster healing and reduce inflammation. While it may sound intense, soft tissue scraping is a non-invasive technique. It is used to enhance the body’s natural healing processes without the need for surgery or medication. Benefits of soft tissue scraping include improved mobility & flexibility, enhanced healing, scar tissue & adhesion breakdown, relief from chronic injury, & improved lymphatic drainage. Common conditions treated with IASTM muscle strains, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, scar tissue post-surgery or injury, chronic pain & tight muscles, frozen shoulder, & myofascial pain syndrome. While soft tissue scraping is generally well-tolerated, some discomfort may occur, especially if the area being treated has a lot of scar tissue or muscle tightness. It is essential to communicate with the therapist about pressure and pain tolerance during the session. Some mild bruising or redness may appear after treatment, especially if the tissues are tight or damaged. This is typically short-lived and indicates increased blood flow and the breakdown of tissue restrictions. Soft tissue scraping is an effective, non-invasive technique. Scraping can be a valuable tool in a comprehensive treatment plan to restore function, reduce pain, & enhance mobility.

  • Raindrop Therapy

Raindrop Massage Therapy is a therapeutic technique that combines the power of essential oils with gentle, targeted massage to promote physical and emotional well-being. This treatment is known for its ability to reduce stress, improve circulation, support immune function, and provide relaxation. During a Raindrop Massage session, essential oils are dropped onto the back along the spine in a specific sequence, resembling the pattern of raindrops. The oils are often diffused using light pressure, allowing them to penetrate the skin and work their therapeutic effects on the body. Gentle massage on the back, neck, & feet are applied to enhance the treatment.  Essential oils used in the Raindrop session are Oregano, Thyme, Basil, Cypress, Wintergreen, Marjoram, Peppermint, Valor, & Aroma Siez. Each chosen for its specific healing properties.  This technique is not only soothing for the body but also helps to balance & calm the mind, providing an overall sense of relaxation & vitality. Individuals with allergies or sensitivities to essential oils should not choose this technique for their massage needs.

  • Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is a highly specialized and effective form of manual therapy that targets the soft tissues, specifically muscles, tendons, and ligaments, to treat pain and dysfunction caused by neuromuscular imbalances. The goal of NMT is to alleviate pain and tension, improve mobility, and restore proper function by addressing the underlying causes of musculoskeletal discomfort. It is particularly effective for treating chronic pain, postural issues, and stress-related tension. Typical NMT techniques include Deep Tissue, Trigger Point Therapy, & Myofascial Release to alleviate muscle tension, reduce inflammation, and improve blood circulation. The focus of neuromuscular therapy is working with specific muscles & other soft tissues to address trigger points. A trigger point is a hyperirritable spot in muscles that can cause pain both locally and refer pain to other areas of the body. NMT is highly effective in treating chronic pain conditions and benefits include improved circulation, pain management, enhanced muscle function, stress relief, restored posture, & increased range of motion. Overall Neuromuscular Therapy is a holistic, hands-on treatment that focuses on the functional aspects of the body, offering relief from pain & promoting overall well-being.
