Every massage place typically offers the clients a glass or bottle of water after their session. There is a reason!
Drinking water helps further flush out the lactic acid that was broken up during the massage session. Especially if you received a neuromuscular or deep tissue session. These techniques need the extra help that water can provide. The number one benefit of massage is circulation. During your massage the adhesions or tightness is broken down by the manual therapy and whisked off into circulation and eventually flushed out the system completely. The water helps this process along.
I like to think of water and movement as the two homework assignments I send home with my clients. 90% of my personal clientele receive deep tissue and neuromuscular therapy and I always send them home with bottled water and instruction to drink more if they can and go for a walk or swim or some light form of exercise.
DO NOT go home and lay on the couch or get patio day drunk on margs! Even though both sound amazing haha!!! Not drinking water and lack of movement could result in you feeling like crap the next day, which we do not want to happen!
Both the water and movement help flush out lactic acid and are an integral part of massage. 10/10 recommended after every session!
